Mars
The Mars Distillery, officially known as the Shinshu Mars Distillery, is a Japanese whisky distillery located in the Nagano Alps at an altitude of approximately 800 meters, making it the highest whisky distillery in Japan. The distillery was founded in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo Co., a company that has been producing shōchū since 1873. Mars Whisky has a rich history dating back to the collaboration between legendary distiller Kiichiro Iwai and the Hombo family. The distillery was originally opened in Kagoshima in 1960, but was later moved to Nagano to take advantage of the soft, less peated water of the Alps. This resulted in whiskies with a smoother, more refined flavor profile.
