ABERARGIE GOLDEN PROMISE – EXPRESSIONS – Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The Aberargie Golden Promise Expressions is a distinctive single malt from the relatively young Aberargie distillery in Perthshire, Scotland. This whisky is entirely focused on 'Golden Promise'—a traditional barley variety renowned for its rich, full-bodied character and its significant role in the history of Scotch whisky production.

This expression is crafted using 100% Golden Promise barley, sourced exclusively from the Morrison family’s own farmland. Every stage of the process—from cultivating the barley to distilling, maturing, and bottling—is managed in-house. Through this, Aberargie aims to demonstrate the profound influence that the choice of barley has on the final character of the whisky.

Maturation takes place in a combination of first-fill bourbon casks (68%) and first-fill sherry casks (32%). The bourbon casks contribute creamy, buttery notes reminiscent of freshly baked pastries, while the sherry casks add depth and rich, fruity accents. The result is a full-bodied, malty whisky featuring notes of baked fruit, brown sugar, and gentle spices. Bottled at 48.2% ABV, non-chill filtered, and with no added coloring, this expression beautifully highlights the impact of both the barley and the cask maturation.

Tasting Note

- Nose: Warm, buttery aromas of freshly baked cookies and crisp shortcrust pastry, complemented by malt, vanilla, and a touch of brown sugar. In the background, notes of ripe apples and soft pastries emerge, creating an inviting and full-bodied aroma.

- Palate: Full and creamy, featuring stewed apples, caramel, and rich muscovado sugar. The malty foundation is complemented by hints of buttery pastry, vanilla, and baked fruit. Gentle oak influences and a subtle spiciness add depth to the whisky without overpowering its natural sweetness.

- Finish: Long and warming, with lingering notes of brown sugar, malt, and baked apples. Soft cinnamon and other warm baking spices persist, accompanied by a subtle touch of oak.
