ABERARGIE LAUREATE EDITION – EXPRESSIONS – Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Aberargie Laureate Edition is a distinctive single malt from Perthshire, Scotland, which highlights the influence of barley. Part of the ‘Expressions’ series, this whisky is crafted using 100% Laureate barley, grown on the Morrison family’s own farmland. Through this release, the Aberargie distillery demonstrates how the choice of a specific barley variety shapes the final character and flavour profile of the spirit.
The whisky is matured in a carefully curated combination of first-fill sherry casks and first-fill bourbon casks. The sherry casks impart rich notes of dried fruit and candied orange peel, while the bourbon casks contribute gentle hints of vanilla and a pleasant sweetness. The character of the Laureate barley brings forth fruity and malty accents, which blend harmoniously with honeyed tones and warm spices. The result is an elegant, multi-layered whisky that brings together fruit, sweetness, and the spicy influence of oak.
Tasting Note
- Nose: Fresh aromas of candied orange peel and dried apricots, followed by raisins and ripe orchard fruits. In the background, notes of warm fruitcake, smooth milk chocolate, and a touch of cinnamon emerge.
- Palate: Full-bodied and fruity, with a foundation of juicy apples and ripe pears. Dried fruit and orange peel add depth, while honeyed sweetness and soft vanilla round off the flavour. White pepper and subtle oak spices lend the whisky added structure.
- Finish: Long and warming, with lingering notes of honey, candied fruit, and gentle spices. Subtle woody undertones, vanilla, and toasted grains provide a refined conclusion.
