Product Description
Ardnamurchan Distillery introduces a new whisky. The first Midgie, released in 2024, was originally intended as a one-off charity donation to help the foundation combat this nasty, stinging little mosquito. It was only available in the United Kingdom and sold out in a flash. The Midge is a small mosquito found primarily in the northeastern coastal region of Scotland, has a nasty sting, and is depicted as a cartoon character on the whisky's label.
The whisky is sourced from various casks: 50% ex-American bourbon barrels, 48% ex-port barriques, and 2% from (1) sherry butt. Of this, 75% is from unpeated barley and 25% from peated barley. A delicious blend.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Very fresh with roasted pineapple, plums sprinkled with salt, strawberry jam on a salty cracker, preserved ham, pine needles, almonds, spearmint, and more. This is delicious.
Paste: Pear with a salt crust, wildflowers, lime, thyme, cocoa powder, raisins, pink peppercorns…and then those salty notes again.
Finish: A seductive puff of smoke with salted caramel. Sweet and salty at the same time, without being too heavy. This will get us through the summer in style.
