Official Tasting Notes: The Bruichladdich Octomore 16.1 is a heavily peated Islay single malt from the Bruichladdich distillery. This first release in the sixteenth series has an alcohol content of 101.4 ppm and has matured for five years in first-fill bourbon casks. These were bottled in 2025 at 59.2% ABV, non-chill-filtered and without added color, as a limited small-batch release.

Nose: An intriguing opening of sea spray and orchard fruit, enveloped by the delicate peat smoke of Octomore. Fine floral notes of dried heather and chamomile emerge, followed by subtle vanilla and toasted almond. Cedar, smoked paprika, and iodine add complex savory notes.

Palate: Direct yet gentle peat smoke followed by salted caramel, honeydew melon, and apricot. Sweet malt sugars mingle with cinnamon and star anise. Sea salt, toffee, chocolate, and coconut follow, accompanied by a gentle wave of earthy minerality and lingering smoke.

Finish: The finish is long and lingering, with the signature peat smoke at its heart. Black pepper and toffee mingle with sea salt, creating a complex and satisfying finish.
