Bruichladdich’s Octomore is some of the most heavily peated single malt in the world. The series was launched in 2008 and it has since gained a cult following of peat lovers all around the world. Edition 16 features three whiskies that build upon each other in an unorthodox experimentation of terroir, cask management and peat levels—with each single malt having its own distinct and unique character. Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 16.2 uses the same malted barley as the 16.1 (Concerto barley from the Scottish mainland, peated to 101.4ppm) but with a different maturation profile. The spirit aged in Oloroso and Bordeaux casks, and was then recasked into Madeira and Moscatel for a final year of maturation. The result is a captivating exploration of contrasting elements. The powerful peat smoke finds a perfect counterpoint in the rich, nuanced sweetness derived from the finishing casks.
