In the heart of the legendary Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region lies Château Dereszla, founded in the 18th century. Today, it is a modern winery with a rich history. The entrance to the historic cellars has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tokaj is renowned for its sweet Aszú wines, made from botrytis-affected grapes. Sheltered on three sides by the Carpathian Mountains, the region experiences long, warm autumns with high nighttime humidity—ideal conditions for botrytis.
The winery owns 60 hectares of vineyards, most of which are situated on a narrow plateau at an altitude of 475 meters. The volcanic soil is rich in loam and iron, which contribute to the wine's character. In addition to premium sweet wines, Château Dereszla also produces refined dry white wines. The grapes are hand-picked and transported in small baskets called "puttonyos." The Aszú grapes are macerated in dry white wine. The sugar content depends on the number of puttonyos added. The more puttonyos, the more intense and sweeter the wine.
