Tasting Notes
Aroma
Full and dark with raisins, dates, and plum compote, followed by caramel and a touch of chocolate. The refill PX keeps it slightly airier, allowing apple, orange peel, and a malty biscuit note to come through as well. In the background, nuts, a hint of coffee, and a spicy oak backbone.
Taste
Oily and powerful with a distinct sherry drive. First syrupy dried fruit and toffee, then more structure emerges with cocoa, roasted nuts, and a light espresso-like bitterness. Dailuaine’s firm core provides body, while spicy oak, black pepper, and a hint of ginger tighten the sweetness. A few drops of water can bring out the orange, nuts, and maltiness even more beautifully.
Finish
Long and warming with persistent PX notes, chocolate, and spicy oak. Towards the end drier with tea-like tannins, a bittersweet touch of orange peel, and a warm, dark fruity finish. Dailuaine Distillery is located in the Speyside region, near the village of Carron in Moray. Founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie, Dailuaine has a rich history in whisky production and is known for its high-quality single malts. The distillery is picturesquely situated at the foot of Mount Ben Rinnes, ensuring a constant source of pure water. A unique feature of Dailuaine is the use of worm tubs, a traditional cooling system that contributes to the full and complex flavour profile of their whiskies. Dailuaine whiskies are known for their robust and full character, with rich notes of malt, dried fruit, honey, and subtle spiciness. The distillery matures its whiskies primarily in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, resulting in a deep and complex taste experience. Dailuaine mainly produces whisky for blends, but their single malts are also beloved by connoisseurs for their unique character and depth. The combination of a beautiful location, traditional techniques, and high-quality production makes Dailuaine a respected name among whisky connoisseurs worldwide.
