Story about
The Elena Walch Grand Cuvée Kermesse is a prestigious red wine from South Tyrol, Italy, blended from five grape varieties: Merlot, Lagrein, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Syrah. The Kermesse blend stands out for its powerful, intense purple-red color and an intense, layered bouquet: spicy with light, smoky tobacco notes, a touch of pepper and chocolate, and fruity with red berries, wild berries, and dried figs.
Powerful, yet elegant and harmonious on the palate, with well-integrated tannins, delicate toasted aromas, and a spicy fullness, with great potential and a long finish. A wine with considerable finesse and character.
Winning
All grape varieties except the Cabernet Sauvignon (which ripens later) are harvested on the same day and processed together. The must ferments for approximately 10 days in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging for 18 months in French oak barriques (Limousine and Allier), almost all of which are new. Finally, the wine matures in the bottle for several months before release.
Since 2015, a state-of-the-art fermentation cellar has allowed for the careful processing of the grapes, using whole grapes processed using gravity technology. A highly sensitive destemming machine and the gentle transport of the grapes through a specialized container, the "Cuvon," which runs on rails, have proven to be very gentle on the grapes and preserve their high quality. This state-of-the-art building is certainly unique in Alto Adige and is probably one of the most modern fermentation cellars in Italy for the production of great, top-quality red wines.
