Never before done: a brut champagne made from 100% reserve wines. Laurent-Perrier does it, and the name of its champagne is Héritage. Here's the story. When Bernard de Nonancourt took over as head of Laurent-Perrier in 1948, he decided to create a unique cuvée. He wanted to give nature a helping hand in creating the perfect vintage. To this end, he began amassing a collection of reserve wines, made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the very best parcels of the house's top vineyards. In 1959, he was able to release the first "Itération" Grand Siècle, a blend of wines from 1955, 1953, and 1952. Grand Siècle is still made from three vintages of top wines—the last, Itération No. 26, received the highest score from wine critic James Suckling. But the ambitious house wants to do more with its acquired knowledge and unique collection of reserve wines and has decided to create a new champagne: Héritage.
A tribute to the house's heritage and that of the Champagne region, Héritage showcases, like no other, the diversity of Champagne's terroirs and soils, their aromatic complexity, and their aging potential. Héritage is blended from the 2019 (30%), 2018 (30%), 2016 (20%), and 2014 (20%) vintages. The wine has a white-gold color and a fine, persistent mousse. The nose reveals notes of lemon and white peach, toasted bread, and roasted almonds. The wine has a fresh attack on the palate and is lively, elegant, and complex with white fruit and lemon zest. Héritage offers a perfect balance of freshness, elegance, and ripeness with notes of floral honey. Perfect with poultry, ham, fish, shellfish (langoustine, crab), and mushrooms.
