The word Koch comes from the scientific name of the agave pulquero – Ferox Koch – the first agave plant used to create the base for a drink in pre-Hispanic Mexico.

Koch is the first variety of the Agavaceae, the species we call mansor or pulquero, that we use for the production of the Mexican fermented drink known as pulque, a sacred drink for Aztec culture, which was produced before our contact with Europe.

The birth of this drink also marks the origin of human consumption of the agave plant. This is where the importance of the name Koch El Mezcal and its meaning lies. KOCH is a name that stands for history, origin, and identity.
