Powerful, smoky, and surprisingly refined.
The Octomore 15.1 demonstrates that extreme peat and elegance can go together perfectly. With an impressive 108.2 PPM, this single malt ranks among the most heavily peated whiskies produced, yet behind the curtain of smoke lies remarkable layering.
Nose
An explosive opening of dry, earthy peat smoke, followed by fresh citrus and lemon. Beneath this, soft notes of vanilla, creamy custard, and caramel emerge. With a little more time in the glass, spiciness, roasted malt, and a subtle briny sea breeze come to the fore. The smoke is intense, yet remarkably elegant.
Taste
Full and powerful, with the warmth of 59.1% alcohol beautifully supported by sweet malt and rich smoke. Mango, banana, and apricot jam provide a surprisingly fruity character, while vanilla, toffee, and lightly charred oak add depth and sweetness. The peat is earthy and smoky, layered rather than overpowering.
Finish
Long, warm, and unforgettable. The peat smoke lingers slowly and blends with vanilla, sweet charred oak, and a fresh, briny note. With a few drops of water, the smoke opens up further, and subtle maritime notes become even clearer.
