Tasting Notes
Aroma
Salty and fresh with sea air, wet stones, and a hint of ship's wood. Then lemon oil, green apple, and pear, followed by vanilla, light toffee, and a soft waxy note. With some time, almond, a touch of white pepper, and a subtle spicy lift also emerge.
Taste
Oily and mouth-filling with a clear maritime core. First sea salt and citrus zest, then creamy vanilla and malty sweetness. The mid-palate adds more depth with mineral tension, toasted oak, and a light spiciness of ginger and pepper. The 51.6% provides grip and length without becoming sharp.
Finish
Long and elegantly drying with persistent salinity, lemon oil, and a light nutty accent. Towards the end, more toasted wood, a subtle bitterness from citrus peels, and a warm, coastal impression that lingers beautifully.
Pulteney Distillery
Pulteney Distillery is located in the historic coastal town of Wick, on the northeast coast of Scotland. Founded in 1826 by James Henderson, the distillery plays an important role in the local community and the region's maritime traditions. The proximity to the sea has a strong influence on the character of the whiskies produced here. A unique feature of Pulteney Distillery is the use of water from the nearby Loch Hempriggs, which contributes to the purity and flavour profile of their whiskies. Pulteney whiskies are known for their maritime character, with notes of sea salt, spiciness, and a subtle smokiness. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills, whose unique shape contributes to the complex and full flavour of the whisky. The whiskies mature primarily in ex-bourbon casks, ensuring a balanced and rich flavour. This combination of historical traditions, a maritime location, and high-quality whiskies makes Pulteney a respected name in the world of Scottish single malt whisky.
