The small Isle of Raasay is making a big splash once again: Skye's neighbor presents a limited-edition single malt that even seasoned connoisseurs have likely never experienced before. The Isle of Raasay Marsala Cask is not only the distillery's first bottling from this type of cask, but it also utilizes Marsala casks, which are extremely rare in the whisky industry.
Raasay's lightly peated raw spirit matured entirely in Frazzitta Marsala Vergine barriques. Marsala Vergine is one of the highest classifications in the Sicilian wine family and is protected by the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) designation of origin. The casks used are typically soaked in Marsala Vergine for decades – just like those used by Frazzitta. This historic Marsala producer was founded in the 19th century and is known for the long maturation of its fortified wines.
