In 1869, Karel Lodewijk Filliers founded his company in Deinze, Belgium, which at the time focused on cultivating grains. The surplus grains were distilled as an agricultural distillery. In 1880, the license for the "jenever distillery" was granted, and the Filliers Distillery became a reality. Since then, the distillery has used traditional copper stills. The craftsmanship of the master distillers has ensured that the recipe for the spirits has been increasingly refined. The recipes remain a family secret today, passed down to each successive generation that joins the company.
Over the years, the company has also continued to innovate with new products and improvements to existing ones. Filliers consistently surprises with fantastic product innovations. For example, in 1928, Firmin Filliers developed the first Belgian gin with 28 botanicals. In 2018, Filliers introduced a new range of premium Genevers to breathe new life into Jenever, ranging from 0 years (unmatured) to a whopping 21 years. They also proudly launched their first Filliers whisky in 2019. At the time, it was the oldest Belgian whisky ever matured exclusively in sherry casks! And, in 2021, Filliers launched three different vodkas and a 30-year-old Barrel Aged Genever. With the launch of two different Rye Whiskies in 2023 and three different Single Malt Whiskies in 2024, Filliers Distillery continues to work hard to put Belgian Whisky on the world map.
