TORABHAIG – THE DISTILLERS’ SERIES – NIALL’S FIRST EDITION – Isle of Skye Single Malt Scotch Whisky

With "Niall’s First Edition," the Torabhaig Distillery on the Scottish Isle of Skye presents a distinctive single malt that brings together light peat smoke, tropical fruit, and maritime influences. This limited release is part of The Distillers’ Series—a collection that grants the distillers the freedom to explore their own personal vision of whisky. Niall Culbertson drew inspiration from his own deep connection to the sea and the rugged coastal landscape of Skye. This maritime character serves as the foundation for a whisky in which fruity freshness and gentle smoke perfectly complement one another.

The recipe consists of 90% peated malt, 5% brown malt, and 5% dark crystal malt. The spirit is matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon casks and refill rum casks; the bourbon casks contribute soft notes of vanilla, while the rum casks enhance the whisky’s fruity, sweet aromas. The result is a bold yet balanced expression, characterized by a harmony of tropical fruit, malt, sea salt, and subtle peat smoke. The whisky is bottled at cask strength, without chill-filtration, and with no added coloring. Only 5,250 bottles are available worldwide.

Tasting Note

- Nose: Expressive and fruity, with aromas of ripe pineapple, guava, and juicy pear. Vanilla and golden syrup provide a gentle sweetness, while subtle hints of smoldering ash, light peat smoke, and toasted malt add depth. In the background, a fresh, briny sea breeze emerges. - Taste: Full-bodied and vibrant, featuring juicy orange, ripe tropical fruit, and soft vanilla. Malty, biscuit-like notes and honeyed sweetness are complemented by sea salt, maritime influences, and a touch of black pepper. A light peat smoke remains present without overpowering the fruit, while the creamy texture beautifully brings the various flavors together.

- Finish: Long and warming, with lingering notes of vanilla, tropical fruit, and spicy oak. Subtle peat smoke and ashy accents combine with a briny, maritime touch and a pleasant sweetness.
