Claxton’s Caol Ila 9 Years – 50%
A characterful Islay whisky for lovers of smoke, the sea, and a robust dram. This 9-year-old Caol Ila, bottled by Claxton’s, combines the typical maritime character of Islay with a lovely sweet maltiness and pronounced smokiness.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Immediately recognizable as a Caol Ila: fresh sea air, briny notes, and a soft, elegant smoke. Beneath this, we discover lemon peel, sweet malt, light vanilla, and a hint of charcoal. The smoke is clearly present but remains beautifully balanced.
Taste
Full and slightly oily on the palate. Sweet malt and citrus are quickly followed by peppery peat smoke, seaweed, and a subtle briny touch. As the whisky opens up, notes of toasted wood, spices, and a small hint of sweet fruit emerge.
Finish
Long, warm, and smoky. The peat lingers pleasantly, along with pepper, salinity, and a slightly dry woody note. A beautiful, maritime finish that invites you to take the next sip.
