An elegant and characterful Speyside single malt from Strathmill, selected and bottled by independent bottler Claxton’s as part of the Exploration Series. Distilled in 2015 and matured for nine years in a bourbon hogshead, allowing the refined and fruity distillery character to come to the fore beautifully. With its powerful 50% alcohol, this whisky offers plenty of flavour, while simultaneously maintaining an attractive smoothness and balance.

Tasting Note

Nose
Soft and inviting with notes of vanilla, sweet malt, and ripe yellow fruit. Behind these, subtle aromas of caramel, freshly baked biscuits, and light nuts emerge. A fresh citrus undertone provides liveliness.

Taste
Full and creamy on the palate. Vanilla, honey, and malt are complemented by ripe pear, apple, and a hint of citrus. As the whisky opens up, almond, caramel, and a light pepperiness come to the fore. The 50% gives it sufficient strength without the alcoholic character dominating. Finish
Beautifully long and warming, with sweet malt, vanilla, and soft spiciness. A subtle note of citrus and oak lingers, while the whisky slowly becomes drier and more refined.

Character
A fresh, fruity, and accessible Speyside, in which the classic softness of Strathmill is combined with sufficient power and spiciness. An excellent whisky for enthusiasts who like to discover the pure character of a single malt, without the wood or cask influence dominating the distillery character.
